Vel Crackers — Premium Crackers & Fireworks for Every Occasion

The story of Sivakasi’s cracker industry began in 1922 when two cousins, P. Ayya Nadar and A. Shanmuga Nadar, traveled from drought-stricken Tamil Nadu to Calcutta to learn match-making. Returning home, they established cottage match units, which soon evolved into fireworks manufacturing due to the town's hot, dry climate. Famous brands like Standard and Sri Kaliswari emerged, alongside a massive printing ecosystem. Impressed by its self-reliant growth, Jawaharlal Nehru dubbed it "Kutty Japan." Today, Sivakasi produces over 90% of India’s fireworks, transitioning toward eco-friendly green crackers.
